• To help select a marketing campaign (or advertising media) which will generate the most profit
• To schedule production and smoothen employment when there is fluctuation in demand.
• To determine optimum levels of inventory, and reordering and replenishing policies
• To help allocate resources in an optimal manner, especially scarce resources, such as in case of capital budgeting problems, or travelling salesmen
• To help determine best time for replacement of equipment.
