Time Constant:

It is defined as the time required to make the exponent term unity in the temperature distribution equation for the lumped parameter analysis.

Temperature distribution equation for lumped parameter analysis is

t - tati - ta = e - βi.Fo

∴βi.Fo = 1

∴h.As.Tρ.V.Cp=1
