Classification of columns based on slenderness ratio:
l/h<12 Short column
l/h> long column.
l/b/> pedestal column.
Classification based on type of reinforcement:
1. Tied column: The main longitudinal reinforcement is enclosed within closely spaced lateral ties. (rectangualar or square).
2. Column with helical reinforcement: The main longitudinal reinforcement is enclosed with closely spaced and continuously wound spiral reinforcement. (circular or octagonal)
3. Composite column: The main longitudinal reinforcement of the composite column consist of structural steel sections or pipes with or without longitudinal bars.
