Bleaching Powder: - Bleaching powder is used for small quantities of water due to its action hypochlorous acid (HOCl) and nascent oxygen is produced which are powerful germicides.
$CaOCl_2+H_2O → Ca(OH)_2+Cl_2 \\ Cl_2+H_2O → HOCl+HCl \\ HOCl \ \ → \ \ HCl + O (nascent oxygen) \\ (hypochlorous \ \ acid) $
Ozone: - It is produced by passing silent electric discharge through cold and dry oxygen. Unstable ozone formed breaks down to liberate nascent oxygen produced is a powerful oxidizing agent and oxidizes organic matter present in water and also kills bacteria.
Chlorine: - It is employed directly as gas in form of solution in water. It produces hyprochlorous acid which is a powerful germicide as a result of chemical reaction between enzyme and HOCL, which inactivate the enzyme.
