Product Layout is a type of layout design in which the resources needed to produce the product are arranged in one line, as per the sequence of operations. Process Layout refers to the type of layout design wherein the resources having homogeneous processes or functions are combined.
In the case of products, firm guidelines are followed. In contrast, the process consistently follows guidelines.
The main goal of the product is to complete the work successfully. While the purpose of the process is to make the quality of the project better.
High fixed cost and low variable cost. Comparatively low fixed cost and high variable cost.
A product tends to be short-term. Whereas the process tends to be long-term.
Product is created based on the needs and expectations of the customers. A process serves as a model for similarly producing various goods.
Product patents are thought to offer greater protection than process patents. A process patent provides the inventor only limited protection.
