A compressed air supply for a pneumatic system should be adequately calculated and made available in appropriate quality and quantity.

  • Air Filter :- For complete and proper operation of the pneumatic system the compressed air should be clean and dry to prevent any kind of damage to compressor the air is first filtered. Air filter are used before compressor to remove dust heavy contaminants from the air if present any.

  • Compressor :- It is a mechanical device which converts mechanical energy into fluid energy. Basis use of compressor is to generate compressed air that is coming through filter. The compressor increases the air pressure by reducing its volume. During this operation the temperature of the compressed air increases.

  • Air Cooler :- The air is compressed to a desired from compressor but at the same time the temperature of air also increases. Hence air cooler are used to reduce the temperature of compressed air.

  • Dryer and Separator :- Pneumatically operated system strictly work on compressed air which is moisture free. The dryers are used to remove all water vapour contents and moisture if any present from air.

  • Receiver Tank :- The compressed air produced has to be stored somewhere, which can be used later. Hence it is stored in the receive tank.

  • Control Value :- From the tank a regulated off pressure is sent further to the system. To maintain the quality again another air treatment plant can be used, which consists of cooler, seperator and dryer. This air is sent to directional control value through a process control value. The control the value can be individual or may be through a feedback loop.

  • Directional Control Valve :- The DCV is used to give direction to the pressurized air which is used for operating an actuator.

  • Actuator :- It is a device and for actuating any further device connected to it or to achieve an output of any other application.
