Advantages of FEM

FEM can perform complex analysis
It can handle complex geometry
It can handle complex boundary condition and loading conditions
It can handle anisotropic and non homogeneous material
It is enable to computer programming

Disadvantages of FEM

High computational time
Required better computers and memory units
Required trained and skilled operators
Need to validates the result
In fluid dynamics FVM is better then FEM
