Mamy projects fails in the execution phase itself. So it is best to tackle the problems before the beginning of project execution.
The main reasons why project fails in execution phase are as follows:
1) Execution gaps and unrealistic expectations: Execution gaps represent misunderstanding between expectations and reality in certain elements of project such as:
- Time and scheduling
- Budget and resources
- The size or quality of deliverables
- Collaborators’ scope of work
To overcome this execution gap the stakeholders should communicate these elements and outline expectations in task details before a project gets underway.
2)Lack of leadership and accountability: In lack of leadership and accountability project manager fails to complete the project on given timeline and the time is not properly managed which leads to delay in project execution. To overcome this project managers and higher-up stakeholders need to ensure proper planning and some strict norms should be applied regarding leadership and accountability.
3) Inflexibility: There may be situation where someone important person related to project may fall back or resign during project execution. Which may lead to project termination. To avoid this, a backup plan should be made by project manager or higher authorities to avoid this type of Inflexibility during execution phase.
4) Communication breakdowns: Communication breakdown is one of the major problem in project termination and it can happen in any phase of the project including execution phase. Project communication plans should be made to empower the project team and improve their quality of work. Having a centralized place to communicate and document progress means less time switching between platforms and more time actually collaborating which will ultimately improve communication between the project team members.
