Project team is the group of people responsible for executing the tasks and producing deliverables outlined in the project plan. Project team schedule any project as directed by the project manager, at whatever level of effort or participation defined to them.
The project team includes the project manager and the group of individuals who work together on a project to achieve its objectives. It consists of the project manager, project management staff, and other members who are maybe not directly involved with management but carry out the work related to the project.
Having the right skills within the project team is crucial to project success, and the membership of the project team may change as different skills are required for certain phases and deliverables.
A typical Project Team consists of following members/roles:
- Project Sponsor or Project Executive.
- Project Manager
- Subject Matter Experts (SMEs)
- Change Management Function
- Project Assistant/Project Coordinator
- Project Planner
- Risk Management function
- Team Manager(s) – Line managers of the SMEs
- Testing Manager(s)
- Testing team
- Quality Assurance function
The project team is responsible for contributing to the overall project objectives and specific team deliverables, by contributing towards the planning of project activities and executing assigned tasks/work within the expected quality standards, to ensure the project is a success.
Following are the responsibilities of a project team:
- Provide information, estimates and feedback to the PM during project planning
- Provide business and/or technical expertise to execute project tasks (work)
- Liaise with stakeholders to ensure the project meets business needs
- Analyze and document current and future processes and systems (functional and technical)
- Identify and map information needs
- Define and document requirements
- Support and provide end user training
- Report issues and status to PM
- Work collaboratively with other team members towards achieving common project goals/objectives
