The given statement is false. For same heat input and constant maximum pressure diesel cycle is better than Otto cycle.
Figure compares Otto and diesel cycles on the basis of constant maximum pressure and same heat input.
For the same maximum pressure in the figure points 3 and 3’ must be on same pressure line and for same heat input the areas 2-3-6-5 and 2’-3’-6’-5 on T-s diagram must be equal. From diagram it is clear that heat rejected by diesel cycle that is area 4’-1-5-6’ is less than heat rejected by Otto cycle that is area 4-1-5-6. Hence diesel cycle is more efficient than Otto cycle under these conditions.
