Role of Quantity surveyor in construction industry

1. A quantity surveyor is a professional working within the construction industry, manages all costs relating to building and civil engineering projects, from the initial calculations to the final figures.
2. A quantity surveyor may work for either the client or the contractor, working in an office or on-site. They are involved in a project from the start, preparing estimates and costs of the work

3. The functions of a quantity surveyor include:

   a. Preparing tender and contract documents, including bills of quantities with the architect and
   the client.

   b. Understanding costs analysis for repair and maintenance project work.

   c. Assisting in establishing a clients requirements and undertaking feasibility studies

   d. Performing risk and value management and cost control.

   e. Advising on procurement strategy.

   f. Allocating work to subcontractors.

   g. Understanding the implications of health and safety regulations.

   h. Valuing completed work and arranging payments.
