All image compression techniques are not invertible. Image compression are broadly classified into lossy and lossless compression. In the case of loseless compression scheme the reconstructed image exactly resembles the original image without any loss of information, but the compression ratio is usually less these techniques involve Runlength coding, Huffman encoding, Arithmetic coding etc wherein all these are invertible. In case of lossy compression high compression ratio is achieved but at the expense of quality of image which is reconstructed. There by techniques such as JPEG, IGS Quantization are not invertible.
