Forests are large tracts of land covered by huge trees and biodiversity.
Our forest resources include the following things:
Trees - Forests have abundance of trees. These trees hold the soil intact and prevent erosion. The trees also act as oxygen providers and carbon dioxide consumers. The trees bear fruits and are also a source of plywood.
Animals - Our forests are home to large species of animals which maintain balance of the ecosystem. These animals are used for their skin, meat and medicinal values.
Soil - Forests undergo continuous regeneration and breakdown. This results in large amount of decay material adding nutrients to the soil in forests. This results in fertile soils in forests.
4. Minerals and fuels - Forests are the seat of minerals like bauxite, minerals and coal. These natural resources develop over the years in the forests.
The problems associated with the forest resources are:
1. Deforestation and felling of trees results in the clearing of forests. This leads to the denudation of soil and makes the fertile forest lands barren.
2. Poaching of fauna in the forests leads to imbalance of the forest ecosystem ultimately affecting the overall health of the forest.
3. Construction activity in forests causes adverse effects to the forest ecosystem.
4. Overutilization of forest resources like medicinal plants, plywood and soil depletes the forest resources.
