In situ method is the conservation of genetic resources in natural populations of animal or plant species. It involves protection of an endangered animal or plant species in its natural habitat either by cleaning up the habitat or protecting the species from predators. It helps the animal or the animal species to adapt to their natural environments.
In situ method of conservation is practised in the form of National parks (e.g. Kaziranga National Park ) and Sanctuaries (Manas Sanctuary).
In situ method doesn’t lead to alienation of native species and helps in maintaining the natural genetic makeup of different species.
