What are the causes and effect of Noise Pollution?

The following are the causes of Noise Pollution :

1. Industries and Heavy machinery: Industries using huge machines produce a lot of noise. Reactors, generators, fabric mills, assembly line units also produce a lot of noise.

2. Poor Urban Planning: Poor urban planning leads to congestion and crowding which produces noise. Markets at prime locations cause commotion leading to noise pollution.

4. Transportation: Daily traffic including public transport like busses, railway and airways produce considerable amount of noise. Cars and bikes involve in honking which also results in high decibels.

5. Construction Activities: Under construction activities like mining, construction of bridges, dams, buildings, stations, roads and flyovers lead to noise pollution. Electrical equipments used in construction produce noise. The heavy earthly materials on lifting and pounding also produce a lot of noise.

6. Domestic noise: Noise from household activities like washing of clothes, utensils and watching TV contributes to noise. Music played in clubs and parties also produce a lot of noise.

The following are the effects of Noise Pollution :

1. Hearing Problems:  Our ear drums are capable of hearing to sounds up to certain decibels only. Beyond that limit, impairment of the sound takes place. Unwanted noise can also reduce our sensitivity to hearing

2. Health Issues: Excessive noise pollution in offices, schools and public places cause chronic health disorders. They may also cause stress, hypertension, fatigue and loss of psychological health. Noise pollution might also cause sleeping disorders. Noise also causes cardio vascular problems like high blood pressure.

3. Effect on Wildlife: Wildlife faces far more problems than humans because noise pollution since they are more dependent on sound. Animals develop a better sense of hearing than us since their survival depends on it. The ill effects of excessive noise begin at home. Pets react more aggressively in households where there is constant noise.

They become disoriented more easily and face many behavioural problems. In nature, animals may suffer from hearing loss, which makes them easy prey and leads to dwindling populations. Others become inefficient at hunting, disturbing the balance of the eco-system.
