The important role of technology in environment and human health are as follows:
Role of Technology in environment:
- Remote sensing and geograhic information system provides data and knowledge concerning the global environment as it is used for mapping and monitoring various natural resources.
- Ministry of environment and Forest & Govt. of India have created environment information system. Different centers are setup in different organizations for information collection, storage which work towards boosting the relationship between environment.
- Technology is used for computer based modeling and simulation of environmental scenarios for analysis and prediction.
- It enables environmental scientists and researchersaround the world to communicate, collaborate and coordinate.
Role of Technology in Human health:
- It can be used for audio, visual and data communication for medical consultation, diagnosis, treatment, nursing and medical education.
- It can be used for tesing of DNA, creating DNA database and genetic information about population. Medical records and finger prints whcih are used for investing agencies to identify missing persons and criminals.
- It helps in spreading awareness about epidemic and communicable diseases. With the help of remote sensing and Geographic information system GIS there is identification of several infested areas which are prone to some disease like malaria, dengue and so on based upon mapping of such areas. A geographic information system (GIS) is a system designed to capture, store, manipulate, analyze, manage, and present all types of spatial or geographical data.

ROLE OF TECHNOLOGY ON ENVIRONMENT AND HUMAN HEALTH :
A number of softwares have been developed for environment and human health which are user friendly and can help an early learner in knowing and understanding the subject.
Database on Environment and Health :
- Database is the collection of inter-related data on various subjects. It is usually in computerized form and can be retrieved whenever required.
- In the computer the information of database is arranged in a systematic manner that is easily manageable and can be quickly retrieved .
- There are several Distribution Information Centre(DICs) in our country that linked with each other and with the central information network having access to international database.
Environmental Information System (ENVIS):
ENVIS has established in 1982 by the Ministry of Environmental and Forest. It focus in providing Environmental Information to decision makers ,policy planners ,scientists and engineers ,research workers all over the country.
India has 81 ENVIS centers and they constantly work in generating a network of database in areas like pollution control ,clean technologies ,remote sensing ,costal ecology ,biodiversity ,and also about the health of people working in various hazardous and non-hazardous industries ,safety measures etc.
National Management Information System(NMIS) :
- The department of science and Technology has compiled a database on research and development projects along with information about research scientists and personnel involved.
Geographical Information System(GIS) :
GIS is one technique of superimposing various thematic maps using digital data on a large number of inter-related or inter-dependent aspects.
These help to get actual information about physical and biological resource and their degradation.
It is useful for future land use planning ,provides information of atmospheric phenomena like approach of monsoon ,ozone layer depletion ,inversion phenomena ,smog etc.
It also gives information about oil ,mineral reserves etc.
The GIS also help in providing correct ,reliable and verifiable information about forest cover ,success of conservation efforts etc
World Wide Web (WWW):
The internet facilities help to gather the information regarding environment by using WWW.
Many websites provides information about any aspect of environment and acts as an effective tool in education ,management and planning in the field of environment and health.
