Ultra filtration :-

  1. Ultra filtration membrane are a relatively new development used for the purification of water.
  2. Ultra filtration uses a membrane very similar in design to reverse osmosis system, except that the ultra filter's pores are slightly larger
  3. It is the membrane separation technique in which very fine particles or other suspended matters, with a particle size in the range of 0.005 to 0.1 microns, are separated from a liquid.
  4. Ultra filtration membrane have nominal pore size of 0.0025 to 0.1 microns.
  5. The ultra filtration is used to remove pyrogens and other long chain organic molecules from the purified water. it is capable of removing salts, protein and other impurities within its range.

Reverse osmosis(RO):-

  1. Reserve osmosis is the reversal of natural flow of osmosis.
  2. It occurs when the water is moved across the membrane against the concentration gradient, from lower concentration (of water) to higher concentration (of water) under the influence of applied pressure.
  3. Reverse osmosis(RO) is a pressure driven membrane separation process that separates dissolved and suspended substances from water.
  4. It includes dissolved solid, organic, pyrogen, submicron colloidal matters, viruses and bacteria from water.
  5. The membrane act as a selective barrier removing unwanted substances such as salt producing water safe for drinking.
