Thermoplastic and the thermosetting resins:

Thermoplastic resins Thermosetting resins
These are formed by addition of polymerisation. These are formed by condensation polymerisation only.
They are long chain linear polymer with negligible cross links. These have 3-dimensional network structure with number of cross links.
They have low molecular weight. They have high molecular weight.
They are usually soft, weak and less brittle. They are hard, strong and more brittle.
Monomer used in these is generally bifunctional. Monomer used in these is of higher functionality.
They are soluble in some organic solvents. Due to strong bonds and cross links, they are insoluble in almost all organic solvents.
