Solution:

Following are the objectives of Heat Treatment:

  1. To improve machinability

  2. To improve mechanical properties e.g. tensile strength, ductility, hardness, shock resistance, resistance to corrosion etc.

  3. To relieve internal stresses induced during hot or cold working.

  4. To change or refine grain size.

  5. To improve magnetic and electrical properties.

  6. To improve heat resistance, wear resistance.

  7. To improve weldability.

  8. Remove gases, Harden and strengthen the metal.

  9. Homogenize the structure.

  10. Change the chemical composition of metal component
