A circus tent is cylindrical to height 3m and conical above it, If its diameter is 105m and slant height of cone is 5m, calculate the area of total canvas required.

Soltution:

Given h=3m, d=105m,

$r = \frac{105}{2} = 52.5m, l = 5m$

$Curved surface area of cylindrical = 2\pi rh = 2$ x $3.14$ x $52.5 x 3 = 989.1 sq.m.$

$Curved surface area of cone = \pi r l = 3.14$ x $52.5 $x $5 = 824.25sq.m.$

Area of total canvas required = 989.1 + 824.25

$= 1813.35 sq.m$
