Lead - Lead shall be average horizontal straight practicable distance through which the earth can be carried from the sources to the place of spreading and not necessarily the route actually taken. For the purpose of measurement of mead, the area excavated shall be divided into a number of blocks and for each block and the lead shall be measured from the centre of the block to the centre of the soil heaped. The unit of lead is 50m for a distance upto 500m and shall be measured as a separate item for (a) 0m to a distance not exceeding 250m, (b) distance exceeding 250m ut not exceeding 500m.

The unit of lead is 500m for a distance exceeding 500m upto 5km and shall be measured as a separate item with the following stages :

(a) lead exceeding 500m and not exceeding 1000m

(b) lead exceeding 100m to 1500m,

(c) lead exceeding 1500m to 2000m.

Such separate stages shall be provided for a distance up to 5km.

The unit if lead is 1km where the lead exceeds 5km. Half or more than half km shall be deemed as one km and less than half km shall be ignored.
