There are mainly five types of wire
- Triplex wire
- Main feeder wire
- Panel feed wire
- Non metallic sheathed wire
- Single stand wire
1. Triplex wire:
Triplex wire are usually used in single phase service drop conductors, between power pole and weather head. They are composed of two insulated aluminium wire wrapped with a third bare wire which is used as common natural .
2. Main feeder wire:
Main power feeder wire are the wire that connect the service weather head to the house. They are made with standard or solid THHN (T- thermoplastic insulation, HHhigh heat resistance, X- synthesis polymer that is flame resistance) wire and cable install in 25% more than load required.
3. Panel feed wire:
Panel feed cable are generally black insulated THHN wire. These are used to power main junction box and circuit breaker panels. Just like main power feeder wires the cable should be rated for 25% more than actual load
4. Non metallic sheathed wire:
Non metallic sheath wire , or Romex is used in most home as 2-3 conductor each with plastic insulation and bare ground wire.
5. Single strand wire:
Single strand wire also uses THHN wire though there are other variants. Each wire is separate and multiple wire can draw together through a pipe easily.
