Passive fire protection (PFP) - PFP attempts to contain fires or slow the spread through use of fire resistance wall,floor and door.

Non combustible material- building component like wall,floor, column,beam,ceiling,roof,shaft etc, should be fire related building element and have fire Resistance rating as started in the NBC.

Staircase and lift lobbies

1. The external in closing wall of the staircase shall be of the brick or R.C.C construction have the fire resistance of not less than 2 hours
2. The all in close staircase shall have access to self closing door of one hour fire resistance.
3. Provision of lift are made for all multi storey building having a height of 15m and above.
4. All the floor should be accessible for 24 hours by the lift. The lift provided in building shall not be consider as a mean of escape in case of emergency.
5. Landing door in lift enclosure shall have a fire resistance not less than one hour
6. Lift car door should be fire resistance rating of 1 hour
