Performance appraisal is another important activity of the staffing function
It is normal for any organisation to set standards for performance of company's own people on the one hand for every department on the other hand
Measurement of result determination of deviation if any and necessary corrective action are involved in appraisal.
Performance appraisal required managers to gather information on how effective each individual is at accomplishing delegated duties.
Commutating this information to subordinate enables them to know how well they are doing and to correct less than acceptable behavior.
Performance appraisal also permits management to identify the outstanding performances and in effect raise their performance and in effect raise their performance standards.
Performance appraisal have some drawbacks. Some of them are listed below

Personal bias of the managers distorting the ratings
