The SNMP n/w management architecture portrays data path between manager application and agent application process via 4 transport function protocols UDP, IP, DLC and PHY

Set request is generated by management process to reset the value of an object variable.

Get response is generated by an agent process for filling the value of requested object with any success or error message associated with the response.

Trap is an unsolicited message generated by a agent without any message or event arriving from the manager.

Messages

Get - Request - Send by manager requesting data from agent.

Get - Next - Request - Set by manager requesting date on next MD.

Set - Request - Initializes or changes value of n/w element.

Get - Response - Agent responds with data for get and set requests from manager.
