• CMIP is the most comprehensive set of specifications and addresses all seven layers of the OSI Reference Model.

• CMIP is a network management protocol used widely b the people in charge within telecommunications networking environments to manage telecommunication domain & telecommunications devices.

CMIP structure consists of following :

• Managed objects : is characteristics of a managed devices that can be monitored, modified or controlled and can be used to perform tasks.

• Management agent : is sensing the notifications and alarms to the n/w management applications

• Network Management Applications : initiated transactions with management agents by using the operations - action, cancel, get , create delete, get & set.

• CMIP variables not only relay info, but also can be used to perform task which s impossible under SNMP

• CMIP is a safer system as it, has built ins security, that supports authorization, access control & security logs.

• CMIP provides powerful capabilities that allow management applications to accomplish more with a single request.

• CMIP provides better reporting of unusual n/w conditions

• CMIP allows communication between n/w management systems & n/w management agent, CMIP relies on ACSE & ROSE

• CMIP offers an object oriented request / response between agent & manager application objects are defined using GDMO (Guidelines for definition of managed objects)
