- Cranes have wide application in construction projects, industries and in shipping etc.
- These are used for lifting the loads and placing them at the desired
location.
- For this purpose the cranes have three motions in general, namely
hoisting i.e lowering, derricking and slewing.
- The cranes are generally electrically operated, diesel operated or
may have diesel-electric drive.
- The cranes are very much useful to pick up a load at one point and be
able to deposit it at another point within a restricted area.
- These are used for loads that are heavy for other types of
equipment's.
- Each type of crane is designed and manufactured to work economically
in specific site situations.
- Construction cranes are generally classified into two major families
namely Mobile Cranes and Tower Cranes.
The cranes can be classified in following cases:
- Derrick cranes.
- Mobile cranes
- Hydraulic cranes.
- Overhead cranes also known as Gantry cranes.
- Traveller cranes.
- Tower cranes.
