MOSFET operating in saturation region produces a current in response to its gate to source overdrive voltage. So we define a parameter which gives this variation. This parameter is called transconductance (gm).

This is the behavior of gm as a function of overdrive voltage with W/L constant. Gm can also be expressed as,

This is the behavior of gm as a function of overdrive voltage with ID constant.
