a. Soda lime glass or Crown glass or Commercial glass: It is used for making window panes, glass tubes, simple glass, bottles and other laboratory apparatus, etc.
b. Potash lead glass or flint glass: It is used in manufacture of artificial gems, electric bulbs, lenses, prisms, table ware, radio valves, etc.
c. Bottle glass or common glass: It is used for making medicine bottles.
d. Potash lime glass: It is hard glass and is widely used in the manufacture of glass articles which have to withstand high temperatures such as combustion tubes etc.
e. Borosilicate glass: It is widely used in the chemical industry, for laboratory apparatus for ampoules and other pharmaceutical containers, for various high intensity lightning applications and as glass fibres used in the reinforced plastics to make protective helmets, boats, piping, car chassis, ropes, car exhausts and many other items and also in textile industry.
f. Structural glass: It is used for making panel walls, partition walls, stairway enclosures, etc.
g. Fibre glass: It is used in air filters to remove dust.
h. Wired glass: It is used for skylights and roofs. These glasses are resistant to fire and thrust hence used in doors and windows.
i. Foam glass: It is used in air conditioning and refrigeration industries.
j. Bullet Proof glass: It is made by layers of plate glass joined by vinyl resin and used in show cases, jewellery stores, cashier booths, glazing bank teller, etc.
k. Tinted Glass: These glasses are used for decorations and light exclusive purposes such as windows of schools, hospitals, hotels, etc.
