In all construction project, proper inspection and quality control becomes very important so that the construction is carried out in accordance to plans and specifications.

This will result in a good quality construction at reasonable cost. In many construction project, good and safe design can be spoiled by careless execution.

Once the project is complete, it becomes very difficult and costly later on to modify and carry out the changes to rectify the defect.

Therefore inspection and quality control becomes integral part of project management.

Inspection consist of receiving inspection, in-process inspection and final inspection before accepting the constructed structure. First of all inspection is to be carried out for the materials of construction about their quality and acceptability.

Then comes the inspection during the process of construction. For doing this check list has to be prepared.

Important consideration during the work of Earthwork are:

Since the earthwork involves the foundation for the structure, this should be done carefully according to drawing. Depending upon type of soil, depth of cutting, side slopes of excavation are to be properly protected.

If the earthwork is in filling, then this should be checked for compaction in layers. This would avoid the problem of settlement at later stages.
