The discharge of water collected from a constant head temperature in a period of 15 minutes is 500 ml.

The interval diameter in head between two gauging points is 15cm vertically apart is 40 cm. Calculate the coefficient of permeability. If the dry weight of the 15 cm long sample is 4.86N and specific gravity of the solid is 2.65 calculate the seepage velocity.

$k = (\frac{Q}{t})(\frac{L}{h})(\frac{1}{A})$ $k = 1.06 * 10^{-2} cm/s$ velocity of flow = $v = \frac{Q}{A} = 25.47 m/s$ $\eta_d = \frac{w}{v} = 16.5 kN/m^3$ e = $\frac{G*\eta_w}{\eta_d} - 1 = 0.593$ $\eta = \frac{e}{1+e} = 0.372 = 37.2$% Seepage velocity $V_s = \frac{V}{\eta} = 68.46 m/s$
