A). $\underline{Ic's \ are \ classified \ depending \ upon \ technology \ as}$

  1. $\underline{ Monolithic \ Ic's}$:-These are Ic's in which all the circuit components and their interaction are manufactured into or on top of a single chip

  2. $\underline{Hybrid \ Ic's}$:-These are the Ic's in whihc saparate component parts are first attached to ceramic sabstrate. Then these parts are interconnected by means of either metallization pattern or wire bound to form the circuit

B)$\underline{Depending \ upon \ No. \ of \ gates \ used \ Ic's \ are \ classified}$

  • $\underline{SSI(SMALL \ SIGNAL \ Integration)}$:-These are the Ic's in which no of logic gates fabricated on a single chip are 0 to 10 eg:-logic gates Ic's

  • $\underline{MSI(MEDIUM \ SCALE \ INTEGRATION)}$:-These are the Ic's in which no of logic gates fabricated on a single chip are 11 to 100 eg:- counter, decoder, shift register Ic's

  • $\underline{LSI(LARGE \ SCALE \ INTEGRATION)}$:-These are the Ic's in which no.of logic gates fabricated in a single chip are 500 to 10,000 eg;-RAM, ROM etc.,

  • $\underline{VLSI(VERY \ LARGE \ SCALE \ INTEGRATION)}$:-These are the Ic's in which no of large gates fabricated on a single chip are greater than 10,000 eg:-High capacity, memory chip, up etc

C)$\underline{Depending \ upon \ which \ signal \ is \ applied \ Ic's}$:-are classified as

i) $\underline{Linear \ Ic's}$:-Ic's that operate with continuous signal to provide electronic function such as amplifier voltage comparator are Linear Ic's

ii). $\underline{DIGITAL \ Ic's}$:-These are the Ic's that operate with binary signal and are made up of interconnected digital gate
