To ensure that the hydraulic gradient is adequate for flow through the treatment work.
To establish the energy head , needed for pumps.
To ensure that the plant facilities will not be flooded or backed up during the period of peak flow.
Hydraulic profile is a complete tracing of the water surface. Hydraulic grade line (H.G.L) through a treatment plant.
Most conventional water treatment plants need 16 to 17 ft of head loss across the plant i.e. a difference of 16-17 ft must exist between them.
