To control the velocity the grit chamber is divided into the compartments, it is called as porportional weir, which maintains the velocity.
The general velocity of flow in the grit chamber is about 3 times greater than the average flow.
Space for accumulation is required to provide a sufficient space, at the bottom of the chamber, for collection of grit.
The velocity of the grit chamber is kept between 200mm and 300mm/per second.
The flow should have enough velocity to carry out the grit from the chamber.
It should never fall below 200mm/per second.
