Embedded systems are being designed on a single Silicon chip, called SOC.
SOC is a system on a VLSI chip that has all necessary analog and digital circuits, processes and software.
A SOC may be embedded with following components-
Embedded processor GPP or ASIP, SPP core or MPP, network bus protocol core, encryption function unit, DSPs, memories, PLD enough FPGA and other logic and analog units.
A major application of SOC is mobile phone.
The SPPs, ASIPs and IPs on SOC are configured two process encoding and deciphering, dialing, modulating, demodulating, interfacing keypad and multiple line LCD matrix displays or touch screens, storing data input and recalling data from memory.
