• OTEC plants can be located on land near sea shores. The warm and cold water from sea to plant site can be brought by conduits or artificial canals.

• The basic requirements to be met for such plants are:

  a) Availability of coastal zone land.

  b) Sea level floor to descend rapidly upto the location of plant .

  c) OTEC power is affected by the seasonable availability of hot and cold water.

• Another option to locate the OTEC plant is by constructing the floating OTEC platforms.

• This method of generation of power is more viable compared to onshore OTEC plants since the required sites are not easily available.
