  • In India we have about 150 known geothermal sites which can produce geothermal fluids upto 1600 c either in the form of hot springs (upto 900 c) and shallow water reservoirs (upto 1600 c).
  • However the main locations of geothermal fields are:-
  • Puga valley in J and K.
  • Manikaran in Himachal Pradesh.
  • Sohana near Delhi.
  • Unai and Jalgaon in Maharashtra.
  • Tuwa in Gujrat.
  • Tattapani in Chhattisgarh.
  • Bakreswar in Bihar.
  • In the belt of Godavari and Mahandi basin.
  • Due to availability of low temperature geothermal fluids, the prospects of development of geothermal power plants in India are very low.
  • It can be utilized for other applications like heating in low temperature range, space heating and cooling, greenhouse cultivation, greenhouse cultivation, drying of wood , mushroom farming, drying of timber , cotton , fruits & fishes etc. depending upon the temperatures of the available geothermal fluids.
