Combination of atmosphere , soil , water, minerals. Vegetation & organism that covers the earth and its atmosphere is called environment. Various pollutants are released by various power plants which damages the environment.
The effect of various pollutants are :
a) CO causes headache, nausea & breathing problems and reduces oxygen carrying capacity of blood since it combines with hemoglobin of blood.
b) HC causes irritation in respiratory system.
c) $NO_x$ causes irritation of eyes, nose, & throat, coughing etc.
d) $SO_2$ and HS causes suffocation , irritation of throat, lung cancer, asthma etc. causes destruction of sensitive crops, yield of vegetation.
e) $CO_2$ causes global worming known as green house effect.
Limitation of solar energy :-
a) This energy is dilute and spread out.
b) The average power obtainable is only $1 kw/m^2$ of area in hottest regions. Therefore , large collection area is required.
c) It is intermittent source of energy since it is not available at night.
d) Seasonal variations affects the intensity of radiation.
e) The requirement of energy storage devices are heavy in order to cater the energy during the house of non-availability of solar energy.
f) Standby power arrangements are necessary during unexpected long periods of non-sunshine hours.
