1) The organization of the petroleum exporting countries ( OPEC ) is an International organisation which was formed between 1-14 Sep 1960 with its head quarter at Geneva.

2) It's initial member were 5 countries namely Iraq , kuwait , Iran, Saudi Arabia & Venezuela. later , this organisation by joined by 9 more countries namely Libya, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Indonesia, Algeria , Nigeria, Equador, Angola and Gabon.

3) The basic aim & policies of OPEC are:

  • To co-ordinate the policies of the oil producing countries.

  • To control International oil prices by varying the oil production by the organisation,

  • To secure steady income to members of the organisation.

  • It's policy says that there is a right of all the countries on its nature resources.

  • Organisation is not subjected to internal competitive pricing.
