Hauling Equipment:
Hauling units transport the earth, aggregate, rock, ore, coal and other materials. Hauling units may be road vehicles or rail-road locomotives.
Haulage mainly consist of trailers pulled by tractors or trucks.
Classification:
Haulage Trucks can be classified in many ways, including:
• On Highway or off-Highway.
• The method of dumping the load- rear dump, bottom-dump, side-dump.
• The type of frame- rigid frame or articulated frame.
• The kind of drive- two-wheel, four-wheel, or six-wheel.
• The capacity- gravimetric (tons) or volumetric (cubic meters).
On-Highway vehicles are designed to be used on public highway, whereas off-highway vehicles are designed to be used on construction site and are designed and manufactured to preclude their use on public roads and thus they may or may not comply with legal on- highway limitations.
Dump Trucks:
Dump trucks are open vehicles which are capable of carrying and dumping earth, aggregate or other loose material to construction sites on various project such as dams, highways, ports, etc.
Generally, heavy-duty machines of more than 10 tones payload are intended for on sites haulage of construction or mine materials.
Dumps trucks in many sizes with pay load ranging upto more than 300 tones are available.
These may have two axle or three axle, and may be 4 X 2 (2 Wheels driven out of 4); 4 X 4 (all 4 wheels driven out of 4); 6 X 4 (4 wheels driven out of 6). As mentioned earlier, the dump trucks are of two types, namely On-Higway and Off-Higway.
For a construction project dump truck is very common and essential equipment and is available in various sizes and types.
These on-highway dump trucks are generally classified by the volumetric or tonnage payload capacity.

Off-Highway dump trucks do not have tail gates, therefore the body floor slopes upwards at a slight angle towards the rear.
The floor shape perpendicular to the length of the body for some models is flat, while other models utilize a “V” bottom to reduce the shock of loading and to help center the load.
