Production leveling, also knwn as production smoothing or –by its japanese original term –Heijunka is a technique for reducing the mura which in turn reduces Muda (waste).on a production line, as in any process fluctuation in performance increas waste.

• This is because equipment, worker, inventory and all element required for production must always prepared for peak production.
• In the situation, where is constant production leveling is easy, but where customer demands fluctuates, two approaches has been adopted:1)demand leveling and 2) production leveling through flexible prodution.
• Industries that utilize the assembly line to obtain their products currently go through great challenges. The first is the need to assemble a large nunber of product models and their variants. In their lines, due to varirty requrired by the market.
• Another challenges is the need to maintain and adequate level of man power ocupation and other utilized resources.
