- The established surfaces established with respect to the airport and each runway above which there is no obstruction projected is called as imaginary surfaces.
- Type of each runway and type of approach is important for the size of the imaginary surfaces.
Types of imaginary surfaces:
- Approach surface
- Conical surface
- Horizontal surface
- Transitional surface
- Take off surface
Approach surfaces:
- Shape of approach surface is trapezoidal. Which is longitudinally centered on center line of the runway.
- From the starting itself the approach surface is upgraded near the extreme end of the runway which is on the landing side. Sides of approach surface are diverged when extend away from the extreme end of runway.
Conical surface:
- The conical surface is circular in shape and there is side slope in upgrade direction
- The radius of conical surface is more at the top and less at the bottom.
Horizontal surface:
- The surface which is extended from the upper edge of the transmitted surface to or lower circular edge of the conical surface is called as horizontal surface.
Take off surface:
- Shape of take off climb surface is trapezoidal and it is upgraded from its beginning near the extreme end of runway which is on the take off side.
- The sides of these surface is diverged when it extends away from the extreme end of runway.
Transitional surface:
- The shape of transitional surface is also trapezoidal slope or inclination is provided to its sides.
- This surface is extended along the landing strip and up-to the part of the approach surface. The slope of these surface is made upwards outwards to inner horizontal surface.
