The Major Steps to solve the problem using FEM.

  1. DISCRETIZATION
  2. SELECTION OF THE DISPLACEMENT MODELS
  3. DERIVING ELEMENT STIFFNESS MATRICES
  4. ASSEMBLY OF OVERALL EQUATIONS / MATRICES
  5. SOLUTIONS FOR UNKNOWN DISPLACEMENTS
  6. COMPUTATIONS FOR THE STRAINS / STRESSES.

It doesn’t give the exact answer. It gives APPROXIMATE SOLUTIONS.

  1. Comprehensive result sets, generating the physical response of the system at any location, including some which might have been neglected in an analytical approach.
  2. Safe simulation of potentially dangerous, destructive or impractical load conditions and failure modes.
  3. Optimal use of a model. Often, several failure modes or physical events can be tested within a common model.
  4. The simultaneous calculation and visual representation of a wide variety of physical parameters such as stress or temperature, enabling the designer to rapidly analyze performance and possible modifications.
  5. Extrapolation of existing experimental results via parametric analyses of validated models.
  6. Relatively low investment and rapid calculation time for most applications.
