Rayleigh’s criteria states that the two point sources of light are said to be just resolved it the first minima of one point source corresponds with the central maxima of other source.

The resolving power of grating is given by

$R.P = \frac{λ}{dλ} = mN$

Where,

λ is the wavelength of light

dλ is the minimum distance difference of wavelength that can be resolved

m is the order of spectra

N is no. of lines in grating
