The reasons why soft magnetic materials are used in the core of transformers are as follows:-
Transformers deal with Alternating Currents.
Thus, the core of the transformers undergoes cyclic magnetization and demagnetization.
As a result, Hysteresis and Eddy current losses are bound to take place.
Soft magnetic materials have comparatively smaller area enclosed by the Hysteresis loop.
As a result, the Hysteresis losses are low.
Also the Eddy current loss for the soft magnetic materials is low.
The magnetic permeability is also high.
Thus, Soft Magnetic materials are preferred as the material for the cores of the transformers.
